IE University Student Office: We are pleased to announce the opening of the following 6 new student clubs at the university: 

IE Philanthropic Club of Madrid 

“The mission of our club is to find ways of involving each member in social activities with the express goal of helping to improve the daily lives of people who are in need.   This will be accomplished by collaborating with a variety of charitable associations, allowing our members to voluntarily choose which they want to assist.   Through these means of community interaction, the club will have a clearer vision of our social environment and be able to more efficiently channel our few resources.  At the end of our activities, we will organize a charity gala / ball to raise funds to help an ONG working in a underdeveloped country.” 

IE Girls’ Soccer Team of Segovia 

“Hi everyone!  We are very proud to present the opening of the first girl-only soccer team at IE University.  Our objective is to promote soccer among female students, improve skill levels, get to know each other better through practice, and learn efficient teamwork (especially in regards to encouraging cooperation and avoiding individualism).     

We already have over 10 members who practice in new Segovia at the university-rented facility of Pedro Delgado on Mondays or Wednesdays from 22:00 to 23:00 and sometimes even during open sports practice on Wednesday afternoons.” 

IE Surf Club of Segovia 

“The mission of the IE Surf Club is to promote and foster the sport of surfing among beginners and amateur surfers.   Come and join us in learning about this fun activity!!” 

IE Music Club of Segovia 

“The IE Music Club has as its goal to enrich the musical knowledge of our members and to enjoy playing together as a group.   It helps having your own instrument, but if you don’t have one don’t worry, we will look for places to rent gear and even (with some luck) obtain discounts for their purchase!” 

IE Dance Club of Segovia 

“The mission of the IE Dance Club is to provide dancers and those interested in dancing the opportunity to do so within the campus of IE University in Segovia.”

IE Outwards-Bound Club of Segovia 

“Our mission and our passion is to start getting the student community of IE University involved in fun activities in the great outdoors, especially (but not limited to) here in Segovia, where there are a lot of opportunities to do so.   We’ll start of relatively light and then move on to more ambitious, heart-racing, stuff over time.  Part of the idea of the club is also to increase the general level of fitness of the participants so those members who consistently participate should be up to the later, more rigorous activities as well.”

Oficina del Alumno.- Nos complace anunciar la apertura de seis nuevas asociaciones de alumnos en la universidad: 

Club Filantrópico de IEU (Madrid)  

“La misión de nuestro club es permitir a cada miembro implicarse en actividades sociales.  Es decir, dar su tiempo para ayudar y mejorar la vida diaria de personas que lo necesiten colaborando con diferentes asociaciones. (…)   Al final organizaremos una gala de caridad para recaudar dinero para una ONG en un país en desarrollo.’ 

Club de Fútbol Femenino (Segovia) 

“Estamos muy orgullosos de anunciar la apertura del primer club de fútbol femenino de IE University.  Nuestro objetivo es de promover el fútbol entre las alumnas de IE, mejorar la destreza de nuestros socios con respecto a este deporte (y conocernos mejor durante las sesiones de práctica), y aprender cómo trabajar en equipo de forma eficiente mediante la cooperación. Ya tenemos más de 10 jugadores que practican en las instalaciones alquilados por la universidad en el barrio de Nueva Segovia, concretamente en el pabellón Pedro Delgado, los lunes o miércoles entre las 22:00 y 23:00 horas.   A veces también jugamos durante la sesión de deportes los miércoles por la tarde”.

Club de Surf IEU (Segovia)  

‘El objetivo de nuestro club es de promover y enseñar el deporte del surf a miembros principiantes. ¡Únete a nosotros para aprender una actividad tan divertida como es el surf” 

Club de Música IEU (Segovia)  

‘El Club de Música IEU tiene como meta enriquecer el conocimiento de nuestros socios sobre la música y además de disfrutar tocando en grupo.  Sería muy cómodo que tuvieras tu propio instrumento musical pero si no lo tienes, no te preocupes, ¡buscaremos sitios donde alquilar el equipo e incluso (y con un poco de suerte) obtener descuentos en su compra!’ 

Club de Baile IEU (Segovia) 

‘La misión del Club de Baile IEU es organizar espacios y sesiones de baile  en el propio campus en Segovia de IE University para gente interesada en aprender cómo bailar.’ 

Club ‘Outwards-Bound’ de IEU (Segovia) 

‘Nuestro deseo y objetivo  es  involucrar a la comunidad estudiantil de IE University en actividades divertidas al aire libre tanto en Segovia (donde hay infinidad de posibilidades) así como en otros destinos más lejanos. Comenzaremos nuestro proyecto con excursiones relativamente fáciles y en el transcurso del tiempo organizaremos  otras actividades aún más apasionantes que requerirán un nivel más elevado de preparación.  En principio, esperemos que aquellos miembros del club quienes participan de forma constante estarían preparados para estas actividades más rigurosas también.’

Se acaban de publicar las actas del VI Congreso Internacional de Musealización de Yacimientos y Patrimonio, el foro celebrado en Toledo en 2010, en el que intervinieron una importante representación de especialistas en Arqueología, Restauración, Arquitectura y Gestión del Patrimonio de España, Europa y Latinoamérica. En este congreso, los investigadores de la Unidad de Arqueología de IE University presentaron dos comunicaciones relacionadas con los yacimientos de Tiermes (Soria) y de Coca (Segovia).  Read more…

. IE University holds the No. 29 position worldwide and No. 6 in Europe in the Education Times & Youth Inc. Global University Rankings 2013.

· IE University is also positioned No. 8 worldwide for university business programs, No. 7 for innovation in teaching, and No. 10 for campus facilities.

· IE University and Pompeu Fabra at No. 94, are the only two Spanish universities to make the ranking.

IE University holds the No. 6 position in Europe and No. 29 worldwide in the ranking of universities drawn up by Youth Incorporated and the education supplement of Times of India, “Education Times”, which has one of largest circulations on the planet.

IE University has climbed 8 positions since the previous ranking, to become a leading university both in Europe and worldwide. Youth Incorporated sees IE University as eighth in the world in terms of university business programs, and tenth in terms of campus facilities. It also places IE University in seventh position worldwide for innovation in teaching, three places higher than last year’s ranking.

IE University and Pompeu Fabra University, which holds the No. 94 position, are the only two Spanish universities that made the ranking. The ranking is based on a survey carried out in over one thousand centers of education in fifty countries. Participants comprise students, recruiters and professors, who evaluate the key factors in university education like program content, employability and job opportunities after graduation, levels of diversity among student body and faculty, innovation, international exchanges, student satisfaction, campus facilities and financial aid. One of the main features of the ranking is that it contrasts the opinion of universities and their students with that of leading international recruiters who intend to recruit from them in the future.

“It gives us great satisfaction to know that recruiters worldwide recognize our international profile, and that they also value our commitment to education in the field of management and the employability of our students,” says Isabel Sánchez, Adjunct Vice Rector and Director of Undergraduate Studies in Business Administration at IE University.

The first three places in the ranking are held by US universities Harvard, Stanford and Pennsylvania. IE University holds the No. 29 position worldwide with a score of 94.9 out of 100, making it the top-ranked university in Spain and sixth in Europe. IE University’s position in the Youth Incorporated ranking is the latest in a series of achievements in terms of recognition by international media, including the latest higher education ranking carried out by International Herald Tribune, which places the IE University in No. 43 worldwide in terms of employability of its students.

IE University, sexta de Europa según el ranking global de universidades “Education Times & Youth Incorporated”

IE University ha conseguido la posición número 29 del mundo y sexta de Europa en el ranking de universidades ‘Education Times & Youth Inc. Global University Rankings 2013’

IE University se posiciona también como la octava universidad del mundo en cuanto a programas de Business, séptima en innovación docente y décima en cuanto a la calidad de las infraestructuras de su campus

IE University  y la Pompeu Fabra, en el puesto 94, son las dos únicas universidades españolas presentes en el ranking. 

IE University ocupa la sexta posición de Europa y la 29 del mundo en el ranking de universidades de la revista Youth Incorporated y del suplemento de educación de Times of India “Education Times”, uno de los medios con más difusión del planeta. Este resultado, que supone un ascenso de ocho posiciones con respecto al ranking 2011-2012, posiciona a IE University como una de las principales universidades de Europa y del mundo. 

Youth Incorporated considera también a IE University como la octava universidad del mundo en programas de Business y la décima en cuanto a equipamiento e infraestructuras de su campus. Además, sitúa a IE University como la séptima  universidad a nivel mundial en cuanto a innovación en metodologías de enseñanza mejorando en tres posiciones el resultado del año anterior. IE University y la Pompeu Fabra, que ocupa el puesto 94, son las dos únicas universidades españolas presentes en este documento. 

Este informe se basa en un estudio realizado en más de mil centros educativos de cincuenta países. En él participaron estudiantes, reclutadores y profesores que evaluaron los factores más importantes en la educación universitaria, como la capacitación, la empleabilidad y las oportunidades laborales después de la graduación, la diversidad de alumnos y profesores, la innovación, los intercambios internacionales y la satisfacción del alumnado y otros factores como las instalaciones de los campus y la ayuda financiera. Una de las características de este ranking es haber contrastado la valoración de los centros y de sus alumnos con opiniones de más de seis mil quinientos reclutadores internacionales sobre los centros en los que prevén seleccionar sus empleados en el futuro. 

“Es para nosotros una gran satisfacción contar con el reconocimiento de nuestro perfil internacional por parte de los reclutadores a nivel mundial, que también han valorado nuestra apuesta por la formación en gestión y la empleabilidad de nuestros alumnos”, subrayó Isabel Sánchez, Vicerrectora Adjunta y directora del Grado en Administración de Empresas de IE University. 

Los tres primeros puestos del ranking global lo ocupan las universidades estadounidenses de Harvard, Stanford y Pennsylvania. IE University se sitúa en el puesto número 29 del ranking mundial con una puntuación de 94,9 sobre 100, siendo la primera universidad española y la sexta de Europa. 

El resultado de IE University en el informe de la Revista Youth Incorporated se suma a otros reconocimientos a nivel global como el último ranking de educación superior del International Herald Tribune, que situó a la universidad privada en el puesto cuarenta y tres del mundo en términos de empleabilidad. 

El Campus de Santa Cruz la Real, en el top ten mundial 

El ranking considera al campus de IE University uno de los diez mejores del mundo en cuanto a equipamiento e infraestructuras. El campus de IE en Segovia está ubicado en el antiguo Convento de Santa Cruz la Real, declarado Monumento Nacional en 1931 y uno de los edificios más espectaculares de la ciudad del Acueducto. Fue el primer convento dominico levantado en España en 1218 y renovado por los Reyes Católicos a finales del siglo XV, obra de los maestros Juan Guas, Pedro de Brizuela y Sebastián de Almonacid. En este recinto espectacular, IE University pone a disposición de sus alumnos más de 18.000 metros cuadrados de aulas, talleres, salas de dibujo, laboratorios, estudios de radio y televisión, salas de conferencias y espacios comunes donde las nuevas tecnologías se integran en un conjunto histórico muy significativo.

IE University representa la extensión del modelo educativo de IE a la formación de grado y ofrece en Segovia y Madrid una innovadora propuesta de titulaciones de grado y de postgrado. Cuenta con 1.100 alumnos de casi 80 nacionalidades y un claustro único integrado por cerca de 400 expertos nacionales e internacionales. IE University imparte grados oficiales en inglés y castellano en: Administración de Empresas, Arquitectura, Biología, Comunicación, Derecho, Finanzas, Psicología y Relaciones Internacionales.

The book launch will be carried out by photographer Ingrid von Kruse; author of the foreword and executive director of the Pritzker Prize Martha Thorne, and architect Rafael Moneo. 

On 21 January at 7 p.m. Ivorypress will host the launch of the book Eminent Architects. Seen by Ingrid von Kruse. A title that compiles over thirty portraits of the most renowned architects of the last two centuries taken by this German photographer. Aside from the artist, the event will also be attended by Martha Thorne, executive director of the Pritzker Architecture Prize and associate dean at the IE University School of Architecture, author of the foreword; and architect Rafael Moneo, 1996 Pritzker Prize-winner and winner of the Príncipe de Asturias award for the Arts in 2012, who is one of the figures portrayed by Von Kruse. 

With a meticulous, demanding and intuitive observation, Ingrid von Kruse has photographed the people responsible for the most outstanding projects in the world. Norman Foster, Oscar Niemeyer, Richard Meier or Zaha Hadid are some of the professionals that have stood before Von Kruse’s personal lens. 

The photographer always works with her analogical Hasselblad camera, and only uses natural lighting. The good climate of each of the photographic sessions in personal settings, workspaces, or the architects’ recent constructions are reflected in each portrait. The result is a deep and intimate insight into each of the characters portrayed and their work. 

The portraits in the book are complemented by statements and reflections by some of the architects in it. A selection of sketches, drawings and mockups completes the particular vision of this German artist. A selection of these portraits will be exhibited at Ivorypress on the day of the presentation. 

Among the architects captured by Von Kruse’s lens are Tadao Ando, Gottfried Böhm, Mario Botta, Santiago Calatrava, David Chipperfield, Peter Eisenman, Frank O. Gehry, Meinhard von Gerkan, Hans Hollein, Bjarke Ingels, Helmut Jahn, Rem Koolhaas, Phyllis Lambert, Daniel Libeskind, Volkwin Marg, Rafael Moneo, Ryue Nishizawa, Ieoh Ming Pei, Dominique Perrault, Renzo Piano, Richard Rogers, Kazuyo Sejima, Álvaro Siza, Robert Venturi, Denise Scott Brown, Albert Speer, Oswald Mathias Ungers and Peter Zumthor. 

Ingrid von Kruse was born in Hamburg and studied photography at the Polytechnic University in Essen (1978-1981). During the following years she began to focus more and more on portraiture. Her books have been the subject of several international exhibitions, such as Europe Taken Literally, Time and Moments and Venice — Voices between the Stone and the Sea. Her work has become an important part of various public and private collections.

La presentación correrá a cargo de la fotógrafa Ingrid von Kruse, la autora del prólogo Martha Thorne, directora ejecutiva de los Premios Pritzker y el arquitecto Rafael Moneo. 

El próximo 21 de enero a las 19:00 h, Ivorypress acogerá la presentación del libro Eminent Architects. Seen by Ingrid von Kruse. Un título que recopila más de una treintena de retratos de los arquitectos más destacados de los dos últimos siglos realizados por esta fotógrafa alemana. Además de la artista, el acto también contará con la presencia de Martha Thorne, directora ejecutiva de los Premios Pritzker y decana asociada de la escuela de Arquitectura de IE University, autora del prólogo; y del arquitecto Rafael Moneo, Premio Pritzker 1996 y una de las figuras retratadas por la fotógrafa alemana. 

Con una observación meticulosa, exigente e intuitiva, Ingrid von Kruse ha retratado a las personas que están detrás de los proyectos de arquitectura más sobresalientes del mundo. Norman Foster, Oscar Niemeyer, Richard Meier o Zaha Hadid son algunos de los profesionales que han pasado ante el personal objetivo de von Kruse. 

La fotógrafa trabaja siempre con su cámara analógica Hasselblad y solo usa luz natural. El buen clima de cada una de las sesiones fotográficas en el entorno personal, espacios de trabajo o construcciones recientes de los arquitectos se refleja en cada retrato. El resultado es una mirada íntima que se adentra en cada uno de los personajes y sus trabajos. 

Los retratos del libro se complementan con declaraciones y reflexiones de algunos de los arquitectos. Una selección de bocetos, dibujos y maquetas completa esta particular visión de la artista germana. Una muestra de estos retratos se exhibirá en Ivorypress el día de la presentación. 

Entre los arquitectos vistos por el objetivo de Von Kruse se encuentran, además, Tadao Ando, Gottfried Böhm, Mario Botta, Santiago Calatrava, David Chipperfield, Peter Eisenman, Frank O. Ingrid von Kruse nació en Hamburgo y estudió fotografía en la Universidad Politécnica de Essen (1978- 1981). Durante los años siguientes, comenzó a centrarse, cada vez más, en la fotografía de retrato. Se han celebrado varias exposiciones internacionales en relación con sus libros, como Europe Taken Literally,Time and Moments y Venice – Voices between the Stone and the Sea. Su trabajo se ha convertido en una parte importante de varias colecciones públicas y privadas.
