resized_99261-martha-thorne_66-17971_t1000Martha Thorne, Vice-Dean of External Relations for the School of Architecture of IE University and Executive Director of the prestigious Pritzker Prize, will give on next Sunday, may 11th a master class to the graduates of the School of Architecture of the Syracuse University (NYC, USA).

The Syracuse University, founded on 1870, has more than 11.000 inscribed students and 4.000 post-graduate students. It is one of the most important research universities in the USA, and has people from more than 100 countries. It is, also, one fo the 56 universities chosen for research by the Association of American Universities.

Martha Thorne

Martha Thorne is currently Associate Dean for External Relations at IE School of Architecture & Design. She is also the Executive Director of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, known as the “Nobel for architecture”  a position she has occupied since 2005. She served as Associate Curator of the Department of Architecture at The Art Institute of Chicago from 1996 to 2005. She is the editor and author of several books, including, Skyscrapers: the New MillenniumThe Pritzker Architecture Prize: The First Twenty Years, and author of numerous articles for architectural journals and encyclopedias. Ms. Thorne received a Master of City Planning degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Affairs from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She undertook additional studies at the London School of Economics.

La Universidad de Siracusa, fundada en 1870, comprende cerca de once mil alumnos matriculados y cuatro mil estudiantes de postgrado. Se trata de una de las universidades más importantes en el campo de la investigación en Estados Unidos. En esta universidad hay alumnos de más de 100 países y es una de las 56 universidades elegidas para la investigación por la Association of American Universities.

Martha Thorne compagina actualmente sus labores directivas en IE University con el cargo de  Directora Ejecutiva de los Premios Pritzker. Desempeñó el cargo de comisaria adjunta del departamento de arquitectura en el Art Institute of Chicago de 1996 a 2005. Es editora y autora de varios libros entre ellos, Skyscrapers: the New Millennium, The Pritzker Architecture Prize: The First Twenty Years y numerosos artículos para revistas de arquitectura y enciclopedias. Martha Thorne, es licenciada en Urbanismo por la Universidad del estado de Nueva York en Buffalo, obtuvo un Máster de City Planning de la Universidad de Pennsylvania y curso estudios adicionales en la London School of Economics.
