Tomorrow, Wednesday the 6th of February, the Investment Club of the university has organized a special seminar given by Mr. Andrew Hazell, a consultant with more than 20 years of experience advising IPOs and financial transactions of international major corporations.    Mr. Hazell will be focusing on how to manage PR in the face of stock market fluctuations to shareholders and the public at large.   

For those who are interested in attending, the seminar is open to non-club members and will start at 15:00 in the Refectory of the university campus in Segovia with a special half-hour introduction by Sara Farooqi, professor of finance and ex-investment banker.    Mr. Hazell’s seminar will begin at approximately 15:45 and last about an hour.  Following both presentations, there will be a Q&A session with an opportunity to network over a catered selection of coffee and pastries. 

More regarding Mr. Hazell: 

“Andrew started the agency Asesores 2000 in 1988 along with two prominent Spanish journalists and founded Dédalo Comunicación in 2002. Previously he worked for Alumax Corporation. Andrew specialises in multinational and financial clients and has worked on most of Spain’s privatisations beginning in 1989. He has advised on more than 15 large financial transactions and IPO’s over the last ten years and dealt with numerous crisis situations over the last decade. Andrew was educated at the University of Missouri where he studied Business Administration, and later studied at  St. Louis University in Madrid. 

Dédalo works with Spanish and multinational companies in Spain and Latin America such as Telefónica, Repsol, Goldman Sachs, Fidelity Investments, Blackstone and Starbucks, among others.”


IE School of Arts and Humanities, in collaboration with IE Alumni Association, has organized a seminar on the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection (Spanish language).  Thursday 22 March, at 7.30pm. The seminar will be led by Guillermo Solana, Artistic Director of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum.  Classroom E-108.  María de Molina, 4.

To mark the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the museum, Mr. Solana will talk about how, over the course of three generations, this important collection of art came about.   In addition he will recount how Madrid won the bid to make the collection its own when thirty years ago a variety of other European cities were attempting the same.  Following the talk, there will be an exhibition of great works from the 13th century until the dawn of the 20th, stopping only to point out the artistic value of the most unique.

Con motivo del 20 aniversario del Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Guillermo Solana expondrá como se reunió esta importante colección de arte  a lo largo de tres generaciones . Además recordará el motivo por el cual hace treinta años se eligió Madrid cono sede, en competencia con varias ciudades europeas. Posteriormente, se realizará un recorrido por la colección, compuesta por obras maestras desde el siglo XIII hasta las postrimerías del siglo XX, deteniéndose y explicando el valor artístico de las más singulares.


The Universidades Foundation, i-deals and IE University, with the common endeavor to promote entrepreneurship through education, organize the conference “Education for Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer”, which will be held on the campus of Santa Cruz la Real in Segovia on 20th and 21st September. The event´s main objective is to provide a better understanding of the process of technology transfer and promote the creation of high value added businesses. Therefore, a group of key figures from business, economic and research will take part of the seminar in order to contribute new ideas and develop them in their respective fields of research. 

The opening of the sessions will be presented by the General Secretary of Education of Junta de Castilla y León, Juan Casado, by the President of IE University, Santiago Iñiguez and Eduardo Serra, President of Foundation Everis. Dr. Tom Byers of Stanford University, former U.S. entrepreneurs at the university, considered one of the best in the world, will be holding the main conference. 

Prominent figures from the worlds of business and academia will share knowledge and experiences in presentations and panel discussions. The seminars will cover three areas: technology transfer within large companies, the experience of creating businesses at university, and an analysis of the different success factors for the creation of companies of high technological intensity. 

The seminars will be closed by the President of the International Centre for Entrepreneurial Management at IE University, Juan José Güemes

IE School of Communication (IE University) invites you to the 49th meeting “Scientists and Professionals in Communication”, series 2010-2011, where Magdalena Wojcieszak, Assistant Professor in Political Communication at IE University, will present in English a talk on “The past and the future of (political) communication”.

Abstract: In this interactive seminar, I will outline the theoretical and conceptual foundations of political communication theory, first reviewing four “eras” in communication research and situating political communication within these eras. I will also address the current “ferment” in the field. Drawing on the article by Bennett & Iyengar (2008) and the chapter by Katz (1995), we will debate future directions in political communication and in sociopolitical trends more broadly.

Oscar-winning film director Michael Wadleigh will visit IE University and will conduct a seminar on sustainability. Mr. Wadleigh is an acclaimed film director who visited us last November and gave us a very challenging talk on the future of human development. His approach to sustainability is very interdisciplinary as he tackles social, political, psychological, environmental and managerial issues. 

In his next seminar, he is going to discuss his insights on the future of humanity and how the scholars may add the notion of sustainability in their own fields.   

This session will take place in the Chapter Room (Sala Capitular) on February 23rd at 16:30.  

The seminar will be conducted in English.

El cineasta Michael Wadleigh imparte un seminario sobre sostenibilidad en IE University 

El reconocido director de cine independiente y del género documental Michael Wadleigh, premiado con un Óscar por su documental “Woodstock” (1970), impartirá un seminario en el campus de IE University en Segovia el próximo miércoles 23 de febrero, a partir de las 16,30 horas, en la Sala Capitular.  

Como se recordará, Michael  Wadleigh visitó en noviembre de 2010 el Campus de Santa Cruz la Real de Segovia para dar una charla acerca del desarrollo humano. Francisco Mata, Dean of Undergraduate Studies, subraya que Waidleih aborda el tema de la sostenibilidad “de forma interdisciplinar “ya que toca temas sociales, políticos, psicológicos, medioambientales y de gestión”. En este seminario, Wadleigh mostrará su visión sobre el futuro de la humanidad y cómo se puede involucrar al mundo universitario en la defensa de un desarrollo sostenible.

Wadleigh se hizo mundialmente conocido al obtener un Oscar de la Academia de Hollywood por el documental Woodstock (1970) sobre el legendario festival de música que tuvo lugar en agosto de 1969 en Bethel (Nueva York), que reunió a cerca de 450.000 personas y que se convirtió en símbolo de la contracultura norteamericana.  Desde hace veinte años, este director estadounidense colabora con diversas organizaciones sin ánimo de lucro que trabajan para la comunidad educativa en África y Asia. Michael Wadleigh disertará sobre sostenibilidad; en ella tratará los problemas relacionados con lo que el denomina “desarrollo insostenible”. 

Esta sesión tendrá lugar en la Sala Capitular el 23 de Febrero a las 4:30 pm
