Fifty pre-university students from sixteen countries participated in an activity called “IExPEERience” where IE University invited them to meet the Santa Cruz la Real campus and the city of Segovia for three days. The aim was to give the young ones a first contact with the campus and to show them the innovative model developed by IE University. 

The fifty-five students, who have already been admitted to the private school to start their studies in September 2013, came from Austria, Belgium, Colombia, United Arab Emirates, Spain, France, Italy, Jordan, Monaco, Morocco, Norway , Poland, Portugal, UK, Switzerland and Turkey. 

In addition to experiencing classes and workshops at IE University, where students from over 80 nationalities currently live, the future students had the chance to meet and share some information with some current students at the university who are studying degrees in Business Administration, Architecture, Communication, Law, Psychology and International Relations. From these new relationships, the future students will get an idea of the academic level that best adapts to their abilities and intellectual and professional concerns. Along with workshops taught by professors from IE University, those students who were admitted participated in a wide range of leisure activities such as a dance class, a silk painting workshop, a magic show or a gastronomic tour through the center of Segovia in search of the best ‘tapas’.

La experiencia de ser alumno en IE University 

Medio centenar de alumnos preuniversitarios procedentes de dieciséis países participaron en una actividad denominada “IExPEERience” con la que IE University invitaba a conocer durante tres días el campus de Santa Cruz la Real y la ciudad de Segovia. El objetivo era que los jóvenes, ya admitidos a cualquiera de los programas de grado, tomaran un primer contacto con las instalaciones e infraestructuras del campus y conocieran de primera mano el modelo innovador que desarrolla IE University. 

Los cincuenta y cinco alumnos, que ya han sido admitidos en el centro privado para iniciar sus estudios universitarios en septiembre de 2013, procedían de Austria, Bélgica, Colombia, Emiratos Árabes Unidos, España, Francia, Italia, Jordania, Mónaco, Marruecos, Noruega, Polonia, Portugal, Reino Unido, Suiza y Turquía. 

Además de experimentar clases y talleres en IE University, donde conviven actualmente estudiantes de más de ochenta nacionalidades, los jóvenes pudieron entrar en contacto y compartir información con varios alumnos de la universidad, que estudian grados como Administración de Empresas, Arquitectura, Comunicación, Derecho, Psicología y Relaciones Internacionales. De esta interrelación, los futuros estudiantes universitarios sacarán conclusiones sobre cuál es el grado académico que más se adapta a sus capacidades e inquietudes intelectuales y profesionales. 

Junto con talleres impartidos por profesores de IE University, los alumnos admitidos participaron en un amplio abanico de actividades de ocio, como una clase de baile, un taller de pintura en seda, un espectáculo de magia o una excursión gastronómica por el centro de Segovia en busca de sus mejores tapas. Los estudiantes aprovecharon su estancia en la ciudad castellana para conocer sus monumentos más significativos, como su Acueducto Romano, su Alcázar y su Catedral gótica. 

“Gracias a este evento, hemos ayudado a los futuros universitarios a afianzar su decisión de cursar el grado que han escogido; muchos de ellos nos han transmitido su satisfacción y nos han asegurado que encajan a la perfección en este modelo de universidad diversa, participativa, innovadora y global. El apoyo de los alumnos colaboradores (IE Ambassadors) ha sido fundamental”, señala Esther Díaz, Directora Adjunta de Admisiones de IE University. 

IE University ofrece un amplio abanico de titulaciones de grado y posgrado, que convierten a este centro en un referente educativo en Europa gracias a un innovador modelo de enseñanza, basado en la proyección internacional, el enfoque global y el fuerte carácter humanista de todos sus programas. IB students take a dive into social entrepreneurship  

More than 240 teens enrolled in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) are scheduled to descend on Segovia July 1, in advance of the opening of the first-ever IB World Student Conference. One of two IB conferences to be held this July, the Segovia event, located on the IE University campus, provides a venue for extracurricular learning in a collaborative environment amidst like-minded youth eager to dive into a rich intercultural experience with their peers. The teens will participate in five days of chaperoned activities that support examination of global engagement through social entrepreneurship, and which enable them to advance their personal Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) projects, a prerequisite to earning the IB Diploma. All registrants, aged 15-17, are enrolled in the IB Diploma Programme; conference participants hail from dozens of countries, from Spain and as far away as Australia, Canada, China, France, India, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, the Netherlands, the United States, and the United Kingdom.. The IB World Student Conference at IE University runs from July 2-6.

During their week on the IE campus, a magnificent convent from the XV Century, conference-goers will devise innovative action plans to tackle the world’s most pressing problems. They will work in Global Action Teams to advance grass-roots social entrepreneurship projects that focus on Culture, Ecology, Social Justice, and Sports.

“Diploma Programme students are characteristically inquisitive, thoughtful, open-minded, caring, reflective, and pro-active,” says Jeffrey Beard, IB Director General. “These particular DP students are exemplary in that they also exhibit courage, a strong global-community spirit, and uncommon initiative in taking big steps towards personal growth, strengthened leadership, and independence. Their work during this conference,” Beard adds, “is sure to reap tremendous rewards for them, individually and collectively. Many of them expect their Segovia connections to last long-term and their learning experience to lay a foundation for future global entrepreneurial endeavors.”

The IB Organization awarded 21 scholarships to students attending both World Student Conferences; nine scholarship recipients will attend the conference in Segovia and 12 will attend the conference taking place in Vancouver, July 23–27. Common themes and purposes emerged in essays students submitted about why they were eager to participate. These themes match up with the IB’s purpose in convening the five-day-long learning laboratories for students:

• To learn to adjust to new surroundings and working with new people.
• To develop new methods of problem-solving and to think ‘outside the box’, i.e. outside the parameters of what is common in their own country of origin.
• To gain new cultural insights through peers studying the IB in other countries, who speak different languages, practice different religions, eat different foods, and come from various socio-politico-economic circumstances.
• To become inspired by their peers and to enrich one another with ideas to implement in their home communities.
• To learn from potential future leaders and to forge global ties. 

“It’s a pleasure for IE University to host the first IB World Student Conference,” said IE University President Santiago Iñiguez. “We share strong educational values, and care deeply about cross cultural engagement and entrepreneurship–key factors in shaping tomorrow’s global citizens.”

Plenary speakers in Segovia are web developer Luis Ivan Cuende, a ‘lover of free software,’ who promotes social change through technology; and activist/social entrepreneur Jobo Scarpelini, now 23, who began his career at 13 in Santos, an impoverished areas of Brazil. Scarpellini encourages leadership in improving underserved communities. Other inspirational speakers include Alec Loorz, co-founder of iMatter, a nonprofit organization that provides youth leadership training and empowerment and that focuses on climate change; and Rocco Falconer, the founder of Planting Promise, also a winner of the Staples/Ashoka Youth Social Entrepreneurship Competition.

Los estudiantes de IB se sumergen en el espíritu empresarial social  

Doscientos cuarenta adolescentes de más de treinta países matriculados en el Programa de Diploma (DP) de Bachillerato Internacional (IB) participarán en la primera Conferencia Mundial de alumnos de Bachillerato Internacional, que tendrá lugar del 2 al 6 de julio en IE University.  IB celebrará en julio dos conferencias mundiales para sus alumnos, la primera en Europa, en IE University (España) y la segunda en la Universidad de British Columbia (UBC) en Canadá. The IT department at IE University is participating in a mobility program for international students of Vocational Training (VET) and their integration in the field of business. The Finnish student from Keuda Vocational College of Kerava Tommi Eskola is currently undertaking an internship at the IT Department of IE University, a pioneer in implementing technological innovations in the field of higher education. This training is part of the European mobility program Leonardo da Vinci, which facilitates the internships of vocational students in companies and institutions in other countries. Keuda Vocational College of Finland and the IES Maria Moliner of Segovia are participating jointly in the organization of this exchange.

The use of the latest technologies, the links with the business world, the global environment of the campus – which has more than 75 nationalities represented in its student body – and the fact that English is the primary language of students, make IE University the ideal place for international students to undertake their internships.

El departamento de Informática de IE University colabora en la formación de alumnos internacionales de FP 

El departamento de Informática de IE University participa en un programa de movilidad destinado a la formación de alumnos internacionales de Formación Profesional y su integración en el ámbito de la empresa. El estudiante finlandés del Instituto Keuda de Kerava Tommi Eskola realiza actualmente sus prácticas en el Departamento de Informática de IE University, pionero aplicar las innovaciones tecnológicas en el campo de la educación superior. La formación que recibe este alumno finlandés forma parte del programa europeo de movilidad Leonardo da Vinci, que facilita las prácticas a estudiantes de FP en empresas e instituciones de otros países, y que desarrollan conjuntamente el Instituto Keuda de Finlandia y el IES María Moliner de Segovia. 

La utilización de las últimas tecnologías, la vinculación con el mundo de la empresa, el entorno global del campus -con más de 75 nacionalidades en su alumnado- y el hecho de que el inglés sea el idioma principal de los estudiantes, convierten a IE University en el lugar ideal para que alumnos internacionales desarrollen su periodo de prácticas. 

IE University está situada en el antiguo Convento de Santa Cruz la Real,  un edificio del siglo XIII que alberga el campus de IE en Segovia en el que se integran las tecnologías más innovadoras aplicadas a la educación. El joven estudiante finlandés asegura que lo que más le ha impresionado es “la diversidad de alumnos del campus, con más de un 60 por ciento de estudiantes extranjeros, así como el ambiente histórico de la universidad”.

Las prácticas del alumno finlandés se han centrado en uno de los departamentos más activos, el de Informática, que da un eficaz servicio al conjunto de profesores y alumnos de la universidad, a través de distintas plataformas y recursos, como el campus online. Durante su estancia, el alumno finlandés se aloja en la residencia “Reyes Católicos” de IE University, ubicada en el propio campus segoviano. En los primeros días de formación, Eskola estuvo acompañado por un tutor de su centro que conoció la dinámica de trabajo de la universidad privada, además, el joven está continuamente supervisado por un tutor de la empresa y otro del Instituto María Moliner, que hacen un seguimiento de las prácticas. 

Tommi Eskola aprovecha su estancia en Segovia para conocer los elementos más significativos de la ciudad de Segovia, su Acueducto Romano, su Alcázar y su Catedral gótica, además de visitar Madrid y quedar “fascinado” por museos como el Prado o el Reina Sofía.

Fifty experts from different parts of the world will gather in Segovia on February 2 and 3 to discuss research in the field of accounting and management control. IE University and IE Business School organize the twenty-seventh edition of the Workshop on Accounting and Management Control “Memorial Raymond Konopka” an event of international reference for researchers  interested in the development of accounting and business processes aimed to meet the objectives of organizations. 

The papers that have been presented in previous editions of the workshop have subsequently been published in leading journals on the subject worldwide. It is therefore the most important forum for researchers interested in organizational and social aspects of accounting systems. 

The specialists who will meet at IE University include the director of the Department of Accounting at HEC Paris, Carlos Ramírez, a distinguished academic on all matters relating to accounting and auditing studies, and Stephen P. Walker, Head of the Accounting History Review magazine, the world’s leading expert in the field of accounting history. The Rector of IE University Salvador Carmona, Editor of European Accounting Review, member of the Executive Committee of the European Accounting Association and President of the Academy of Accounting Historians will also take part of the event.

IE University, foro internacional de expertos en contabilidad y control de gestión  

Medio centenar de expertos de varias partes del mundo se reúnen en Segovia los días 2 y 3 de febrero para discutir trabajos de investigación en el ámbito de la contabilidad y del control de gestión. IE University e IE Business School organizan la vigésimo séptima edición del taller de trabajo en contabilidad y gestión “Memorial Raymond Konopka”, un acontecimiento de referencia internacional para investigadores y académicos interesados en el avance de la ciencia contable y en los procesos empresariales que guían hacia el cumplimiento de los objetivos de las organizaciones. 

Los trabajos que se han presentado en anteriores ediciones de este workshop han sido posteriormente publicados en las mejores revistas mundiales sobre la materia. Se trata, por tanto, del más importante foro de discusión para los investigadores con interés en los aspectos organizativos y sociales de los sistemas de contabilidad.

Actualmente, son muchos los investigadores que contribuyen a ampliar los límites tradicionales de la contabilidad. En este sentido, la reunión destaca por la interdisciplinariedad de los trabajos de investigación presentados y pone de manifiesto la influencia que tiene la contabilidad tanto en el ámbito académico y teórico como en la gestión de las organizaciones y empresas. El control  de gestión se interrelaciona, por ejemplo, con la  estrategia, las finanzas, el marketing, los recursos humanos, el I+D+i,  el comportamiento organizativo y de los individuos, así como con la responsabilidad social y medioambiental. En este contexto, el workshop “Memorial Raymond Konopka” se erige como un puente entre el ámbito profesional y el académico de la contabilidad y control de gestión. 

Entre los especialistas que se reúnen en IE University figuran el director del Departamento de Contabilidad de HEC Paris, Carlos Ramírez, académico de referencia en todo lo relativo a los estudios de la profesión auditora y contable, y  Stephen P. Walker, actual director de la prestigiosa revista Accounting History Review,  el mayor experto mundial en el ámbito de la historia de la contabilidad. Participa también el Rector de IE University Salvador Carmona (en la foto), editor del European Accounting Review, miembro del Comité Ejecutivo de la European  Accounting Association y Presidente de la Academy of Accounting Historians.
