Organized by students Ana Martínez Valls and Eric Cuevas, the campus will host seven notable speakers, all experts in innovation, law and global entrepreneurism 

Tomorrow a TEDx event will take place for the first time at the Segovia campus of IE University, organized by the dual Law and BBA degree students Ana Martínez Valls and Eric Cuevas.    The conference will be led by seven experts who will discuss issues relating to innovation, law, and global entrepreneurism. 

The event in Segovia, guided by the theme of “The fallacy of security”, is officially sponsored by the prestigious international TED organization, whose decision to award an event license to IE University infers their recognition of the quality of the academic institution and its students.     TED is a non-profit organization with 25 years of tradition in which international leaders share ideas in order to promote global progress.   On its side,  

TEDx consists of a series of local conferences, independently organized, which search world-wide for outstanding individuals who can create an experience similar to a TED-organized event. 

Among the speakers at tomorrow’s TEDxIEUSegovia is one of the most influential lawyers of Spain, Javier de la Cueva, in addition to the Director of “Delivering Happiness” in Spain, Carlos Piera, the founder of “Elocuent”, Víctor Sánchez del Real, an expert in personal development, José Ballesteros, the founder of Doocuments, Carlos Polo Gil, the entrepreneur and Oxford student Slava Polonski, and a leader in social entrepreneurism, Indian native Jeroo Billimoria. 

A FEW “ENTREPRENEURIAL” STUDENTS 

This important grouping of participants will come to Segovia due to the enthusiastic spirit of Ana Martinez Valls and Eric Cuevas, two young students of IE University with strong entrepreneurial instincts who, with the patronage and support of the Student Office, have managed to achieve bringing a TEDx event for the first time to the campus at Santa Cruz la Real in Segovia.   Both students study a dual degree in Law and Business Administration, speak four languages and share a passion for new cultures and societies. 

Ana Martínez Valls, who has worked for several international companies and organizations such as UNICEF, is interested in everything related to Law and Economy in addition to the study of all the various factors influencing the development of societies around the world.   On his side, Eric Cuevas focuses his attention on the world of business and in acquiring the necessary skills to be an efficient entrepreneur. 

Both students have achieved bringing together a group of experts who will speak in Segovia about innovation, the entrepreneurial spirit and labour climate.   The objective of the seminar is to generate a fruitful dialogue on these issues while bringing to the table new ideas towards improving our world.”

IE University, anfitriona del primer seminario TEDx sobre ideas innovadoras que se celebra en Segovia 

Organizado por los alumnos Ana Martínez Valls y Eric Cuevas, siete reconocidos expertos en innovación, derecho y emprendimiento a nivel global se darán cita mañana en el Campus de Santa Cruz la Real. 

IE University acoge mañana por primera vez en su campus de Segovia un evento TEDx, organizado por los estudiantes del doble Grado en Derecho y Business, Ana Martínez Valls y Eric Cuevas. En este acontecimiento educativo de primera fila, siete destacados expertos abordarán cuestiones relacionadas con la innovación, la abogacía o el emprendimiento a nivel global.  

El evento en Segovia, titulado “La falacia en seguridad”, está avalado por la prestigiosa organización internacional TED y la licencia supone el reconocimiento a la calidad de la propuesta de los estudiantes de IE University.  TED es una organización sin ánimo de lucro con veinticinco años de historia en la que líderes internacionales proponen ideas innovadoras que hagan progresar al planeta. Por su parte, TEDx es una serie de conferencias locales, independientemente organizadas, que busca que personas en distintas partes del mundo compartan una experiencia similar a TED. 

Entre los ponentes en “TEDxIEUSegovia” estarán uno de los abogados más influyentes de España Javier de la Cueva,  el director de “Delivering Happiness” en España Carlos Piera, el fundador de “Elocuent” Víctor Sánchez del Real, el experto en desarrollo personal José Ballesteros, el fundador de Doocuments Carlos Polo Gil, el emprendedor y estudiante de Oxford Slava Polonski y la lideresa en emprendimiento social, la india Jeroo Billimoria. IB students take a dive into social entrepreneurship  

More than 240 teens enrolled in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) are scheduled to descend on Segovia July 1, in advance of the opening of the first-ever IB World Student Conference. One of two IB conferences to be held this July, the Segovia event, located on the IE University campus, provides a venue for extracurricular learning in a collaborative environment amidst like-minded youth eager to dive into a rich intercultural experience with their peers. The teens will participate in five days of chaperoned activities that support examination of global engagement through social entrepreneurship, and which enable them to advance their personal Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) projects, a prerequisite to earning the IB Diploma. All registrants, aged 15-17, are enrolled in the IB Diploma Programme; conference participants hail from dozens of countries, from Spain and as far away as Australia, Canada, China, France, India, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, the Netherlands, the United States, and the United Kingdom.. The IB World Student Conference at IE University runs from July 2-6.

During their week on the IE campus, a magnificent convent from the XV Century, conference-goers will devise innovative action plans to tackle the world’s most pressing problems. They will work in Global Action Teams to advance grass-roots social entrepreneurship projects that focus on Culture, Ecology, Social Justice, and Sports.

“Diploma Programme students are characteristically inquisitive, thoughtful, open-minded, caring, reflective, and pro-active,” says Jeffrey Beard, IB Director General. “These particular DP students are exemplary in that they also exhibit courage, a strong global-community spirit, and uncommon initiative in taking big steps towards personal growth, strengthened leadership, and independence. Their work during this conference,” Beard adds, “is sure to reap tremendous rewards for them, individually and collectively. Many of them expect their Segovia connections to last long-term and their learning experience to lay a foundation for future global entrepreneurial endeavors.”

The IB Organization awarded 21 scholarships to students attending both World Student Conferences; nine scholarship recipients will attend the conference in Segovia and 12 will attend the conference taking place in Vancouver, July 23–27. Common themes and purposes emerged in essays students submitted about why they were eager to participate. These themes match up with the IB’s purpose in convening the five-day-long learning laboratories for students:

• To learn to adjust to new surroundings and working with new people.
• To develop new methods of problem-solving and to think ‘outside the box’, i.e. outside the parameters of what is common in their own country of origin.
• To gain new cultural insights through peers studying the IB in other countries, who speak different languages, practice different religions, eat different foods, and come from various socio-politico-economic circumstances.
• To become inspired by their peers and to enrich one another with ideas to implement in their home communities.
• To learn from potential future leaders and to forge global ties. 

“It’s a pleasure for IE University to host the first IB World Student Conference,” said IE University President Santiago Iñiguez. “We share strong educational values, and care deeply about cross cultural engagement and entrepreneurship–key factors in shaping tomorrow’s global citizens.”

Plenary speakers in Segovia are web developer Luis Ivan Cuende, a ‘lover of free software,’ who promotes social change through technology; and activist/social entrepreneur Jobo Scarpelini, now 23, who began his career at 13 in Santos, an impoverished areas of Brazil. Scarpellini encourages leadership in improving underserved communities. Other inspirational speakers include Alec Loorz, co-founder of iMatter, a nonprofit organization that provides youth leadership training and empowerment and that focuses on climate change; and Rocco Falconer, the founder of Planting Promise, also a winner of the Staples/Ashoka Youth Social Entrepreneurship Competition.

IE University, sede de la primera conferencia mundial de alumnos de Bachillerato Internacional 

Los estudiantes de IB se sumergen en el espíritu empresarial social  

Doscientos cuarenta adolescentes de más de treinta países matriculados en el Programa de Diploma (DP) de Bachillerato Internacional (IB) participarán en la primera Conferencia Mundial de alumnos de Bachillerato Internacional, que tendrá lugar del 2 al 6 de julio en IE University.  IB celebrará en julio dos conferencias mundiales para sus alumnos, la primera en Europa, en IE University (España) y la segunda en la Universidad de British Columbia (UBC) en Canadá. IE University has achieved the No. 9 position in Europe and No. 37 worldwide in a ranking of universities  “Education Times & Youth Inc Global University Rankings 2011” drawn up by Youth Incorporated Magazine and Times of India Education Times supplement, which has one of the world’s largest circulations. The survey also places IE University among the top ten universities worldwide in terms of innovation in teaching methodologies. 

The ranking is based on a survey conducted in 500 centers of education in 30 countries. Participants include students, recruiters, and professors, who evaluated the key factors in university education, including levels of diversity among the student body and faculty, work opportunities after graduation, campus facilities, financial aid, innovation, international exchanges, and the level of satisfaction among students. One of the features of the ranking is that it contrasts the opinion of universities and their students with that of leading international recruiters who intend to recruit from them in the future. 

The first three places in this global ranking are held by US universities Harvard, Stanford and MIT. IE University holds the No. 37 position worldwide with a score of 93.6 out of 100, and the No. 1 position in Spain. The other Spanish university that made it into the top 100 is Pompeu Fabra University, at No.98. 

“One of our key objectives is to provide students with an optimum teaching model in order to place them in the best possible position to meet the challenges that lie ahead in an increasingly global and complex world,” says Marco Trombetta, Vice Chancellor for Research Coordination at IE University. “Having our teaching methodologies recognized as being among the best in the world serves as a great motivation to keep innovating.” 

The Youth Incorporated ranking confirms that in just three years IE University has established itself among the cluster of preferred European universities among international students. This distinguishing factor is actually one of IE University’s main strengths, given that international students make up over 60% of its student body, and that it currently has some 75 nationalities on campus. 

IE University recently achieved the No. 45 position worldwide and No. 20 in Europe in a survey of universities conducted by International Herald Tribune. The IHT ranking examined the opinions of 3,000 CEOs and senior managers in some 1,000 companies in Germany, Belgium, Canada, US, Spain. France, Italy, Holland, and UK, who were asked about the main universities where they intended to seek future employees.

IE University, entre las diez mejores del mundo por su innovación docente

• La Revista  Youth Incorporated  sitúa a IE University en el puesto 37  del mundo y en el noveno en Europa
• IE University se posiciona también como la decima universidad del mundo en cuanto a su metodología e innovación docente
• IE University  y la Pompeu Fabra, en el puesto 98, son las dos únicas universidades españolas presentes en el ranking

IE University ocupa la novena posición de Europa y la 37 del mundo en el  ranking de universidades“Education Times & Youth Inc Global University Rankings 2011”o rganizado conjuntamente por la Revista Youth Incorporated y el suplemento de educación de Times of India “Education Times”, uno de los medios de comunicación con más difusión en el mundo. Además, IE University se sitúa entre las diez primeras universidades en cuanto a innovación en metodologías de enseñanza. 

Este ranking se basa en un estudio realizado en quinientos centros educativos de treinta países. En este informe participaron estudiantes, reclutadores y profesores que evaluaron los factores más importantes en la educación universitaria, que incluyen aspectos tales como la diversidad de alumnos y profesores, las oportunidades laborales después de la graduación, las instalaciones de los campus, la ayuda financiera, la innovación, los intercambios internacionales y la satisfacción del alumnado. Una de las características de este ranking es haber contrastado la valoración de los centros y de sus alumnos con opiniones de los principales reclutadores internacionales sobre los centros en los que prevén seleccionar sus empleados en el futuro. 

Los tres primeros puestos del ranking global lo ocupan las universidades estadounidenses de Harvard, Stanford y el MIT. IE University se sitúa en el puesto número 37 del ranking mundial con una puntuación de 93,6 sobre 100, siendo la primera universidad española. La otra universidad española que aparece entre las cien primeras de este ranking mundial es la Pompeu Fabra, que ocupa el puesto número 98. 

“Uno de nuestros objetivos es ofrecer a los alumnos la mejor plataforma docente para que afronten de forma óptima los retos de un mundo cada vez más complejo y global”, destacó el Vicerrector de Coordinación e Investigación de IE University, Marco Trombetta, que añadió que  “ver nuestro modelo docente reconocido entre los mejores del mundo es una gran motivación para seguir innovando”. 

El ranking de Youth Incorporated confirma que IE University, con tan solo tres años de historia, se está  haciendo un hueco en el grupo de las universidades europeas preferidas por los alumnos internacionales. De hecho, este rasgo distintivo es una de sus principales fortalezas de IE University: los estudiantes extranjeros representan más del 60 por ciento del total, y en este curso hay 75 nacionalidades representadas en el campus. 

Recientemente, IE University ocupó la 45ª posición del mundo y la 20ª de Europa en el ranking de universidades de International Herald Tribune. Este informe analizaba la opinión de tres mil consejeros delegados y altos ejecutivos de un millar de compañías en Alemania, Bélgica, Brasil, Canadá, EE.UU., España, Francia, Italia, Países Bajos y Reino Unido, sobre cuáles son las principales universidades en las que estas empresas pensaban contratar a sus futuros empleados.

IE University acogió hoy la presentación del IV Curso Internacional de música y pedagogía Ciudad de Segovia, que se desarrollará del 24 al 31 de julio. En esta edición destaca la participación de un número mayor de alumnos extranjeros y la inclusión en el programa de actividades de un taller de improvisación. Durante una semana profesores nacionales e internacionales impartirán clases de acordeón, cello, piano o música de cámara. Además, los alumnos tendrán la oportunidad de poner en práctica sus conocimientos en varios conciertos que tendrán como escenario El Casino de la Unión o San Juan de los Caballeros. 

El curso fue presentado hoy por el Director Artístico del Curso Internacional de Música y Pedagogía ‘Ciudad de Segovia’, Manuel Tévar; la Jefa de Comunicación Corporativa de la Obra Social y Cultural de Caja Segovia, Gema Hernando; y el vicerrector de IE Universidad, Miguel Larrañaga.
