Lecture: Copyright and Cultural Institutions

pedro-letaiNext monday the Pedro Letai´s seminar, Copyright and Cultural Institutions,  will be take place at Casa de La Moneda from 12:00 to 13:00.

Digital communications technologies have led to fundamental changes in the ways that cultural institutions fulfill their public missions of access, preservation, research, and education. Institutions are developing publicly-accessible websites in which users can visit online exhibitions, search collection databases, access images of collection items, and in some cases create their own digital content. Digitization, however, also raises the possibility of copyright infringement. This lecture aims to assist understanding and compliance with copyright law across cultural institutions. We will discuss the exclusive rights of the copyright owner, the major exemptions used by cultural heritage institutions, and stresses the importance of “risk assessment” when conducting any digitization project.

El comercio electrónico, un negocio en alza 

El experto en negocio digital Leonard Pera impartió hoy una conferencia a los alumnos de IE University en la que explicó cuáles son las herramientas y estrategias que deben de adoptar las empresas para sean competitivas en el ámbito del comercio digital. La ponencia de Pera, que se desarrolló en los laboratorios empresariales de la Casa de la Moneda, repasó algunas ideas expuestas en su última obra “Social Commerce. 100 consejos para vender en Internet” donde invita a las empresas a que inviertan en comercio electrónico, un negocio que está creciendo en España por encima del 20% anual, y que alcanza ya los 9.000 millones de euros de facturación.  Este experto acudió a Segovia invitado por el Director del Grado en Comunicación, Miguel Ángel Gabaldón, que dirige unos de los laboratorios empresariales de IE University en la antigua Ceca de Segovia.

Registering to the IE Labs 

Join the Labs by filling up the registration form available on the Campus Online and sending it to Also, hand in a hard copy to your department’s secretary. 

When registering, please do bear in mind:

  1. First year students can only join the Labs during the internship period (full-time).
  2. Second year students (and higher) may work in the Labs during the second semester (part-time) and/or the internship period (full-time).
  3. It is important to register ASAP. Places are limited. Non-registered students will not be admitted.
  4. There is a required minimum number of students for a Lab to open. So, invite anyone you think might be interested.
