The private campus will host the exhibition “Collective Visions” from December 19, 2012 to January 30, 2013 

The IE University campus will be hosting, starting tomorrow, the photo exhibition “Collective Visions,” which includes the work of a group of thirteen fifth year architecture students from the private campus. From December 19, 2012 to January 30, 2013, the former convent of Santa Cruz la Real, home for the private university, presents a collection of thirty-five shots, which summarizes the work of the students in their course “Digital Photography II “, taught by the Director of the Degree in Communication, Miguel Ángel Gabaldón. This presents a collection of the best work that has been done throughout the course, where the students have learned the latest techniques in photography. 

According to the students, the exhibits are very varied, covering topics such as studio photography, street or nature. Exposed in black and white and color, the shots were taken with both analog and digital cameras. The reproduction of the photographs are presented in 20×30 formats, high-resolution and mounted on cardboard pen. The result of the project is a rich and collective work in creativity that reflects each students perspective. The opening of the exhibition “Collective Visions” will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, December 19, from 11.00 hours, at IE University. It will offer a Spanish wine and the tasting of some local produced products, courtesy of Segovia “REYNO ARTESANO “.

El campus de IE University acoge una exposición fotográfica de los alumnos de quinto curso de Arquitectura  

El campus privado alberga la muestra “Visiones colectivas”, del 19 de diciembre de 2012 al 30 de enero de 2013 

El campus de IE University alberga a partir de mañana la exposición fotográfica “Visiones Colectivas”, que recoge el trabajo de un grupo de trece alumnos de quinto curso de Arquitectura del campus privado. 

Del 19 de diciembre de 2012 al 30 de enero de 2013, el antiguo convento de Santa Cruz la Real, sede de la universidad privada, presenta una colección de treinta y cinco instantáneas, que resume el trabajo de los estudiantes de la asignatura “Fotografía Digital II”, impartida por el Director del Grado en Comunicación, Miguel Ángel Gabaldón. Se trata de una recopilación de los mejores trabajos realizados a lo largo del curso, donde los estudiantes han conocido las últimas técnicas en fotografía. 

De acuerdo con los alumnos, las obras expuestas son muy variadas, abarcando temas como la fotografía de estudio, de calle o de naturaleza. Expuestas en blanco y negro y color, las instantáneas fueron tomadas tanto con cámaras analógicas como digitales. La reproducción de las fotografías se presenta en formato 20×30, en alta resolución y montadas sobre planchas de cartón pluma. El resultado es una obra colectiva muy rica en creatividad  y que refleja la mirada de cada alumno. 

La inauguración de la exposición ” Visiones Colectivas” tendrá lugar mañana miércoles 19 diciembre, a partir de las 11,00 horas, en Ie University. En ella se ofrecerá un vino español y una degustación de productos de la tierra por cortesía del establecimiento segoviano “REYNO ARTESANO”.

IE University student Blanca Giménez-Reina received in Murcia the finalist award in the fifth annual photo contest Fototalentos 2012, a competition organized by the Fundación Banco Santander with the collaboration of the network Universia. Blanca Giménez-Reina, who studies Architecture at the Campus of Santa Cruz la Real in Segovia, won one of the three second prizes, worth 1,500 euros. Entitled “Winter”, the photograph is a black and white snapshot of the Plaza Mayor in Segovia covered by a snow storm. 

This edition of Fototalentos 2012 was attended by more than 20,000 young people with a total of 36,836 photographs divided into four categories: Culture, Complaint, People and Landscapes. IE University student´s award has great merit because it was addressed to all members of the university community, from students, teachers and researchers to staff residing in one of the 23 countries where Universia, the largest Spanish and Portuguese speaking network of universities, is present.

This edition of Fototalentos 2012 was attended by more than 20,000 young people with a total of 36,836 photographs divided into four categories: Culture, Abuse, People and Landscapes. IE University student´s award has great merit because it was addressed to all members of the university community, from students, teachers and researchers to staff residing in one of the 23 countries where Universia, the largest Spanish and Portuguese speaking network of universities, is present.

La alumna de IE University Blanca Giménez-Reina recibe el premio como finalista de Fototalentos 2012 

La alumna de IE University Blanca Giménez-Reina recibió en Murcia el premio como finalista de la quinta edición del concurso de fotografía Fototalentos 2012, un concurso convocado por la Fundación Banco Santander con la colaboración de la red Universia. Blanca Giménez-Reina, que estudia Arquitectura en el Campus de Santa Cruz la Real de Segovia, obtuvo uno de los tres accésit, dotado con 1.500 euros. Bajo el título “Invierno”, la fotografía  era una instantánea en blanco y negro de la Plaza Mayor de Segovia cubierta por un chubasco de nieve.  

En esta edición de Fototalentos 2012 se contó con la participación de más de 20.000 jóvenes con un total de 36.836 fotografías divididas en las cuatro categorías: Cultura, Denuncia, Gente y Paisajes. El premio de la alumna de IE University tiene un gran mérito ya que estaba dirigido a todos los miembros de la comunidad universitaria, desde estudiantes, docentes e investigadores hasta personal administrativo que residieran en uno de los 23 países donde tiene presencia Universia, la mayor red de universidades de habla hispana y portuguesa.   Read more…

IE University student Blanca Giménez-Reina was selected as a finalist for the fifth annual photo contest Fototalentos 2012, a contest organized by the Fundación BancoSantander with the collaboration of Universia. 

Blanca Giménez-Reina, who studies Architecture at the Segovia campus, won one of three  prizes, worth 1,500 euros. The photograph, entitled ”Winter” is a black and white snapshot of the covered in snow Plaza Mayor in Segovia .

La alumna de IE University Blanca Giménez-Reina ha resultado finalista de la quinta edición del concurso de fotografía Fototalentos 2012, un concurso convocado por la Fundación Banco Santander con la colaboración de Universia.

Blanca Giménez-Reina, que estudia Arquitectura en el campus de Segovia, ha obtenido uno de los tres accésit, dotado con 1.500 euros. La fotografía, titulada “Invierno”, es una instantánea en blanco y negro de la Plaza Mayor de Segovia bajo un chubasco de nieve. 

Este premio tiene un gran mérito ya que estaba dirigido a todos los miembros de la comunidad universitaria, desde estudiantes, docentes e investigadores hasta personal administrativo que residan en uno de los 23 países donde tiene presencia Universia, la mayor red de universidades de habla hispana y portuguesa.

Hasta el 6 de mayo, la ciudad de Córdoba acoge una exposición del profesor de fotografía de IE University, Rafael Trobat, en la que muestra su visión de la sociedad nicaragüense a través de 80 instantáneas bajo el título “Aquí, junto al agua. Nicaragua”. 

La muestra, abarca desde el final de la revolución sandinista hasta 2008, con el regreso al poder de Daniel Ortega, uno de los líderes del movimiento armado que, tras derrocar al dictador Anastasio Somoza en 1979, gobernó el país durante más de una década. 

La exposición está organizada por Vimcorsa (lugar de la exposición) y la Delegación de Cultura del Ayuntamiento en colaboración con la Consejería de Cultura de la Junta de Andalucía y el Centro Andaluz de la Fotografía. 

El cordobés Rafael Trobat es profesor de fotografía del Grado de Comunicación y está considerado como uno de los mejores fotógrafos españoles en la actualidad.

The prestigious photographer Larry Merrill will be chair of the panel of judges for the “III Photography Contest: Your Eye Outside”, a contest where awards will be given to the best instant photographs taken by IE University Architecture students when in Turkey. These students recently traveled to Turkey to discover its architecture and its international influence. The winners of this contest will be announced next week. 

Larry Merrill has been taking and exhibiting photographs for over thirty years.  In his most recent exhibition, Larry Merrill: Looking at Trees, at the George Eastman House in Rochester, New York, his work centered on the intentional act of looking as reflected in large format photos.  He skillfully captured remarkable images of trees, poetically expressing such themes as the texture of bark, a subtle color palette, or the qualities of light under a sunlit canopy of leaves.

Merrill has also had solo exhibitions at other prominent museums and galleries in Rochester, New York, Washington, D.C., and New York City.  He has photographed for the World Bank in Bhutan, Haiti, Peru, and Senegal.   Parallel to his own photographic work, Larry Merrill has been played an important role in museums and education.  He served as director of the Creative Workshop at the Memorial Art Gallery, Rochester, New York. He was guest curator of The Camera and the Photograph: Images in Light, in the Uris Education Gallery of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

His photos are in the collections of: the George Eastman House; the Israel Museum; the Minneapolis Institute of Arts; the Museum of the City of New York; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Yale University Art Gallery; the New York Historical Society;  and the World Bank. A beautiful and thought-provoking monograph, Pedestrian Photographs, depicting street life in New York City, was published by the University of Rochester Press in 2007.

Larry Merrill presidirá el jurado del “III Concurso de Fotografía: Your Eye Outside” 

El prestigioso fotógrafo Larry Merrill presidirá el jurado del “III Concurso de Fotografía: Your Eye Outside”, certamen que premia las mejores instantáneas tomadas por los alumnos de Arquitectura de IE University en Turquía, país que visitaron recientemente para conocer in situ su arquitectura y su influencia internacional. El fallo del jurado se conocerá la semana que viene. 

Durante más de treinta años, Larry Merrill ha estado tomando fotografías y exhibiéndolas. En su exposición más reciente, Larry Merrill: Looking at Trees (Mirando árboles), en la George Eastman House de Rochester, Nueva York, su trabajo se centró en el acto de observar  tal como se refleja en fotos de gran formato. 

Ha captado con habilidad imágenes extraordinarias de árboles, manifestando de forma poética temas como la textura de la corteza, una gama de colores sutiles o las calidades de la luz bajo un dosel de hojas iluminadas por el sol. Merrill también ha expuesto de forma individual en otros museos y galerías importantes de Rochester, Washington, D.C., y la ciudad de Nueva York.  Ha sido fotógrafo para el World Bank en Bután, Haití, Perú y Senegal. Junto con su propio trabajo fotográfico, Larry Merrill ha desempeñado un papel importante en museos y centros educativos. Ha sido director del Creative Workshop en la Memorial art Gallery de Rochester, Nueva York. Ha sido comisario invitado de The Camera and the Photograph: Images in Light, en la Uris Education Gallery del Metropolitan Museum of Art, Nueva York.

Sus fotos están en las siguientes colecciones: George Eastman House, Museo de Israel, Instituto de Artes de Minneapolis, Museo de la Ciudad de Nueva York, Museo de Bellas Artes de Houston, Galería de Arte de la Universidad de Yale, la Sociedad Histórica de Nueva York, y el Banco Mundial. Una hermosa y provocadora monografía, Pedestrian Pohotographs, publicada por la Universidad de Rochester en 2007, nos muestra la vida de ls calles de Nueva York.
