Red Herring announced its Top 100 award in recognition of the leading private companies from Europe, celebrating these startups’ innovations and technologies across their respective industries.

Red Herring’s Top 100 Europe list has become a mark of distinction for identifying promising new companies and entrepreneurs. Red Herring editors were among the first to recognize that companies such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, Yahoo, Skype,, YouTube, and eBay would change the way we live and work.

Among these companies, Professor Andy Bäcker’s company, Sustainable Reference, was included in the list.

“Choosing the companies with the strongest potential was by no means a small feat,” said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. “After rigorous contemplation and discussion, we narrowed our list down from hundreds of candidates from across Europe to the Top 100 Winners. We believe Sustainable Reference embodies the vision, drive and innovation that define a successful entrepreneurial venture. Sustainable Reference should be proud of its accomplishment, as the competition was very strong.”

Red Herring’s editorial staff evaluated the companies on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as financial performance, technology innovation, management quality, strategy, and market penetration. This assessment of potential is complemented by a review of the track record and standing of startups relative to their sector peers, allowing Red Herring to see past the “buzz” and make the list a valuable instrument of discovery and advocacy for the most promising new business models in Europe.

Audiovisual public policies in Transnational Connections, by Almudena González del Valle Brena

This is a very important occasion to get to know the processes and current issues on political communications. Audiovisual public policy in the EU is “political” in the sense that is influenced by those processes. Elihu Katz the keynote speaker, is an influential academic for the world of political and sociological communications. His work on television events I really important as well as his research on live broadcasting of political ceremonies. I emphasize the need to attend this unique symposium!

European policy processes rely heavily on lobbying by key actors in the industries. I think some of the roundtables are especially interesting, such as “Understanding public opinion polls” or “Political communication and the Internet around the Globe”, on the first day of the symposium. As for interesting thematic workshop “New media and their sociopolitical impact” looks very promising. On the second day,  I would recommend roundtables “Media influences on perceptions” and “Political participation internationally” as well as the thematic workshop: agenda setting in the real world.
