IE School of Communication professor Alfonso Merlos has received the Larra Award, presented by the Madrid Press Association. The award is given to the young journalist who has most distinguished him/herself during 2009. Merlos is also currently associate director of the radio program “La Mañana” on Spain’s COPE radio channel.  

El profesor de IE School of Communication, Alfonso Merlos, ha sido galardonado con el Premio Larra que concede la Asociación de la Prensa de Madrid. Este premio se otorga al periodista joven que más se haya distinguido durante el año 2009. Merlos es actualmente subdirector del programa radiofónico “La Mañana” de la COPE.

Multimedia art by IE School of Architecture professor Daniel Canogar on show at the European Council during the Spanish EU presidency  

A multimedia work of art by artist and IE School of Architecture professor Daniel Canogar will be on show for the six-month term of the Spanish presidency of the EU in the atrium of the European Council building in Brussels. The multimedia art project is entitled “Travesías” and comprises an 33m by 1.65m  LED screen which resembles a flying carpet over visitors’ heads, featuring people walking, running, or crawling. 

The video screen was inaugurated on January 5 by the Madrid-born artist himself and by the Spanish minister for culture, Ángeles González-Sinde, who also presented an extensive cultural program for the six months that Spain will head the EU. “Travesía” combines sculpture and video designed to illustrate the numerous changes that have taken place in a united Europe in the context of society and communication and the digital world.

Daniel Canogar (Madrid, 1964) is a photographer and audiovisual artist who is a world reference in the field of art and new media. He studied image science at Madrid’s Complutense University and gained a Master with a specialization in photography at New York University and the International Center for Photography in 1990. He is currently artistic director of VIDA, an annual competition run by the Telefónica Foundation. His art focuses on photography, sculpture and installation. 

Canogar forms part of the faculty of IE University, where he teaches professor of “Experimentation” at IE School of Architecture, delivering classes with a “high creative voltage” in which students enter into direct contact with contemporary creation.

Una obra del profesor de IE School of Architecture Daniel Canogar, en el Consejo Europeo durante la Presidencia española de la UE 

Una obra multimedia del artista y profesor de IE School of Architecture Daniel Canogar permanecerá expuesta durante los seis meses que dure la presidencia española de la UE en el atrio de la sede del Consejo Europeo en Bruselas. La obra, titulada “Travesías”, consiste en una pantalla LED de más de 33 metros de largo por 1,65 metros de ancho con el aspecto de una alfombra voladora que sobrevuela sobre las cabezas de los visitantes y en la que aparecen imágenes de individuos andando, corriendo, tropezando o arrastrándose por el suelo. 

La video-instalación fue inaugurada el 5 de enero por el propio artista madrileño y por la ministra de Cultura del gobierno español, Ángeles González-Sinde, que también presentó la amplia agenda cultural que desarrollará durante los seis meses de la presidencia española de la Unión. “Travesía” combina la escultura y la videoinstalación e intenta reflejar los numerosos cambios que se desarrollan en la Europa unida en el contexto de la Sociedad de la Comunicación y del mundo digital.

Daniel Canogar (Madrid, 1964) es un fotógrafo y artista audiovisual que ya se ha convertido en un referente mundial en el campo del arte y los nuevos medios. Estudió Ciencias de la Imagen en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, y recibió un Master con especialización en fotografía del New York University y el International Center for Photography en 1990. Actualmente es director artístico de VIDA, concurso anual de la Fundación Telefónica. Como artista visual trabaja con la fotografía, la escultura y la instalación. 

Canogar forma parte del claustro académico de IE University como profesor de la asignatura de “Experimentación” en IE School of Architecture, donde aporta una enseñanza “de alto voltaje creativo” en la que los alumnos toman contacto directo con la creación contemporánea. Read more…

Revolutionizing the Telco market

On the 15^th of December 2009, IE University started the first lecture of the BBA “Executive Insight Series” by inviting Meinrad Spenger, CEO and Co-founder of Más Móvil Telecom 3.0. This lecture dealt with the outline of strategic issues concerning the creation of a mobile phone company as well as the discussion of how to survive in the market during the economic crisis. 

Más Móvil is a low cost operator whose strategy is to have an excellent customer service, and to be innovative and efficient. The company focuses its activity on the on-line services, providing personal accounts, promoting Skype facilities and creating a virtual assistant. In order to compete with other operators such as Telefónica, Orange and Movistar, Más Móvil’s main idea is to have a good product and a good service, unconventional marketing and to create good communication through word of mouth. The current economic situation allows Más Móvil to increase its market share by using the low cost price strategy that gives it competitive advantage.

Revolucionando el mercado telefónico

El Bachelor en Business de IE University inició el pasado 15 de diciembre un nuevo ciclo de conferencias titulado “Executive Insight Series”. El primer ponente ha sido Meinrad Spenger , Presidente y co-fundador de Más Móvil Telecom 3.0. La ponencia se dedicaba a comentar la estrategia de crear una empresa de telecomunicación y cómo sobrevivir en el mercado durante la crisis económica. 

Más Móvil es un operador con los precios bajos que tiene dentro de su estrategia mantener un excelente servicio para clientes, además de ser innovador y eficiente. La empresa enfoca su actividad en el servicio on-line, dando a sus clientes cuentas personales, promocionando Skype y creando un asistente virtual. Compite con otros grandes operadores como Telefónica, Orange y Movistar. Su filosofía  principal es ofrecer un excelente producto y un gran servicio a través de originales  campañas de marketing. En una situación económica difícil como la actual, Más Móvil está creciendo gracias a su estrategia de bajos precios y cuenta con ventaja en relación a sus competidores, indicó Spenger.
