Ruth Vega, professor of the IE School of Architecture and Design, and her team of Cuartoymitad Arquitectura have been awarded the COAM 2014 AWARD  for their work Zinc Shower 2013. Cuartoymitad developed the ephemeral architecture and spatial arrangement for the event Zinc Shower in Matadero  Madrid. Zinc Shower Meeting-Show is a unique and transforming event generated by the Creative and Cultural Industries (CCIs).

More than 4.000 m2 transformed with a very low budget in order to accommodate a wide range of activities during 3 days. 150 custom exhibitions stands, 7 stages and 2 workshop spaces where entrepreneurs, professionals, investors and companies meet to support innovation, collaboration, training, financing and entrepreneurship in the CCI sector.

The aim of Cuartoymitad was to develop a flexible and low-cost system, easy to assemble and disassemble, with the ability to transform an empty space into a place desgined for creativity. We designed a unique piece made of folded cardboard, easy to custom, that served as a divider, shelve, scenery and photocall. These cardboard pieces permit freely its transformation and customization. As a result of it , 150 different exhibition stands, sceneries and dividers were set up to represent creativity and innovation. COAM is the Association of Architects from Madrid.

El grado en Arquitectura de IE University, bajo la coordinación de la profesora Laura Martínez de Guereñu, organiza el ciclo de conferencias “ie foundations”, en el que participarán a lo largo del curso académico un conjunto de expertos internacionales que ofrecerán la visión de su trabajo disciplinar.  

ARQUITECTURA IE 2En la actualidad, los arquitectos no se limitan exclusivamente a idear o proyectar edificios sino que abarcan múltiples enfoques y escalas, volcando muchas veces su trabajo en investigaciones sobre la ciudad, el paisaje, el territorio, la materialidad tectónica o el conocimiento de la historia. IE University reúne en el ciclo de conferencias “ie foundations” a reconocidos arquitectos internacionales para que den a conocer lo que cada uno considera el fundamento de su práctica arquitectónica.

“Su trabajo puede producirse en la confluencia del paisaje, el arte y el urbanismo, mostrar un fuerte interés por la investigación formal o tipológica, centrarse en el uso de diferentes materiales y aspectos espaciales, o intentar revelar a un amplio público la influencia de conexiones históricas a nivel internacional”, afirma Laura Martínez de Guereñu, coordinadora del ciclo, que destaca la amplia variedad de profesionales que acudirán al campus de Segovia. Entre los grandes nombres del ciclo se encuentran Martha Schwartz, Sara de Giles, Jean-Louis Cohen y Louisa Hutton, que expondrán su visión de la disciplina y darán a conocer sus últimos trabajos.

Para Martha Schwartz, reconocida paisajista americana, el diseño del paisaje urbano y del espacio público proporciona la base para ciudades sostenibles que resultan saludables en todos los aspectos de la vida urbana, mientras que la exploración de cerramientos y de espacios intermedios forma el núcleo del trabajo de la arquitecta Sara de Giles, del estudio MGM Morales. Asimismo, Louisa Hutton defiende y construye una idea holística de la sostenibilidad que hace posible tanto el disfrute estético de los usuarios como el análisis energético del proceso de construcción. Finalmente para Jean Louis Cohen narrar la cuestión de la transferencia cultural en arquitectura, diseño urbano y artes visuales en épocas de cambio resulta un objetivo central de su investigación.

Durante la serie de conferencias, que comienzan en octubre y finalizan en abril, los ponentes invitados, de diferentes nacionalidades y trasfondos, compartirán el fundamento y los objetivos de sus prácticas arquitectónicas y presentarán sus trabajos marcados por la diversidad. Una amplia gama de paisajes, ciudades, edificios, libros, películas y exposiciones revelarán la forma en que sus proyectos proporcionan las bases para transformaciones sustanciales de nuestros entornos construidos.

El ciclo arrancó el pasado mes de septiembre en el marco de Hay Festival Segovia, con una conversación entre la paisajista Martha Schwartz y la directora ejecutiva del Premio Pritzker de Arquitectura y vicedecana de Relaciones Externas del IE School of Architecture and Design, Martha Thorne. La próxima actividad tendrá lugar este viernes  17 de octubre, a las 14,00 horas, en la Sala Capitular del campus de Segovia, con la charla titulada “5x5Professors”, en la que cinco profesores de Arquitectura de IE University exponen sus trabajos durante cinco minutos cada uno, que seguirá con un debate conjunto que dará comienzo a partir de otras cinco preguntas. De forma paralela a este ciclo, el espacio del campus “La Cueva” acogerá una exposición de trabajos de estudiantes de Arquitectura con el título “IE Archreview’ 14”. La muestra se inaugura el viernes 17 de octubre, a las 15:00 horas.

Vargas llosa640px-Jean-Marie_Gustave_Le_Clézio-press_conference_Dec_06th,_2008-2Big names in the worlds of literature, art, architecture and journalism will be in Segovia for a new edition of the Hay Festival, set to take place on September 20 – 28. Over fifty creators will come together at Hay Festival Segovia to take part in debates, conversations, concerts and exhibitions of visual arts held in a range of venues of the Castilian city, declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1985.

For the sixth consecutive year IE University will be the Festival’s key partner and sponsor. The University will host some of the main events, welcoming creators of world renown to its campus to take part in this international festival of ideas, art and thought, including key players from the worlds of literature, gastronomy, education and politics. IE University has organized some fourteen events, with the active participation of its professors and experts, who will be playing a key role in activities related directly to their fields of expertise. The activities in question will be centered around key areas of university education that include architecture, communication, humanities, international relations and law.

Presentacion Hay Festival IEOn Saturday, September 20, the Festival will kick off in IE University’s Aula Magna, with a debate organized by IE University and El País, centered on the changes that have taken place in Europe since the First World War. Participants in this opening debate will include the editors of newspapers The Guardian, La Repubblica, El País, Tages-Anzeiger and La Gazeta Wyborcza, with the presence of the UK Ambassador, Simon Manley, and the President of IE University, Santiago Íñiguez. On Saturday, September 27, the day when most of the main events will take place, IE University will be hosting seven important debates, with participants that include Nobel Prizewinners Mario Vargas Llosa and Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio, chef Ferran Adrià, UK politician Chris Patten, and writer Javier Marías.

IE University will also be running events in collaboration with media organizations ABC, Marca and Elle magazine. Some of the big names that will be taking part include Michael Steinberg, Director of Humanities at Brown University, journalist Don Guttenplan, Paul Smith, Director of the British Council in the US, historians Manuel Lucena and Felipe Fernandez-Armesto, Honorary President of the Loewe Foundation Enrique Loewe Lynch, José Carlos Martínez, Artistic Director of Spain’s National Dance Company, writer and former footballer Jorge Valdano, Óscar Campillo, Director of Marca, journalist Santiago Segurola, television presenters Marta Fernández (Noticias Cuatro) and Sandra Barneda (Telecinco), Antonio Fernández, General Director of International Trade and Investment at Spain’s Ministry of Finance and Competitiveness, Fidel Sendagorta, Secretary General of the US Spain Council Foundation, international landscape artist Martha Schwartz, imperial Prince Georg Von Habsburg, author Peter Esterházy, and Professor Arpad Von Lazar.
