The third conference of the series “The Appetizer” of the 2011-12 course, organized by IE School of Architecture & Design, will be held next Monday 10 October .  Manuel Garcia de Paredes and Fernando Pino, professors at IE University will give a lecture called “Superoptimísticoadapthabilidoso”, which offers a reflection on the creation of opportunities through various strategies. The event will take place at 2pm, in Room 142 of the university´s Segovia Campus. 

“The Appetizer” are series that run for a second year and aim to bring students closer to the key forces that shape contemporary architecture. Recognized professionals and academics in the discipline will address specific issues that are near or tangent to the field of architecture. They will be using small presentations that are less formal and rigid than a normal conference. 

A total of nine lectures, thirty minutes each are scheduled until next January 2012. The panel of participating experts include Edgar González, Fermín González Blanco, Paredes-Pino, Julia McAnallen, Luis Alfaro Álvarez, José VelaCastillo, Maki Kawaguchi, Manuel PérezRomero, Isabel Collado and Ignacio Peydro. 

The lecture series is organized by the Associate Dean of External Relations at IE School of Architecture and executive director of the Pritzker Awards, Martha Thorne, and IE School of Architecture & Design academics, Julian Garcia and Anna Mestre.

This is an interesting movie illustrating teamwork and based on true events. Denzel Washington takes on the role of a recently hired American football trainer who needs to face his team’s racism.  Against all odds he molds his players into a efficient and united group which doesn’t make judgments based on the color of skin.   This film is also appropriate for analyzing different kinds of leadership, motivation and communication.

Sinopsis: American football is one of the biggest events in Virginia.   It’s more than sport:  it’s a style of life, an institution that is venerated by all.  In 1971, during a time when racial integration obliged local authorities to create a single school for both blacks and whites, the essence of football will be tested in a trial by fire.  Herman Boone arrives from South Carolina to fill the post of trainer to T.C. Williams High “Titans”, succeeding Bill Yoast, a veteran trainer with a legendary reputation.   The challenge:  Will they let a black man replace a white one as leader of the team?   Rivals at first, together they have the mighty task of converting a ragtag group of aggressive and unguided kids into responsible and sensible adults while liberating a city of its intolerances and racial prejudices.  (FILMAFFINITY)

Interesante película para ilustrar el trabajo en equipo basada en un hecho real, donde Denzel Washington interpreta a un entrenador de fútbol americano, recién fichado, que se encuentra un equipo enfrentado por el racismo. Con todo en contra, debe convertir a sus jugadores un gran conjunto, con sentimiento de unidad; y  que no se les juszque por el color de su piel. Esta película es adecuada también para tratar diferentes aspectos del liderazgo, motivación, y comunicación.
