Next Wednesday 3rd of November the architect Alejandro Aravena will give a lecture at IE University . This lecture is part of the “INOUT: affecting architecture, expanding possibilities” series that IE School of Architecture Professor Laura Martínez de Guereñu coordinates.
Alejandro Aravena (born 1967 Santiago de Chile) established his private practice in 1994 after graduating with a degree in architecture from the Universidad Católica de Chile (UC) in 1992. He has built a portfolio primarily in the field of institutional, corporate, and public buildings. Aravena served as visiting professor at Harvard University Graduate School of Design (2000-05) and is currently the Elemental-Copec Professor at UC.
He is member of the Pritzker Prize Jury and has been named International Fellow of Royal Institute of British Architects. He has been awarded the Silver Lion at the 11th Venice Architecture Biennale 2008, the 2009 Avonni Prize, and the 2010 Marcus Prize for Architecture, among others.
Aravena is one of the founders and currently the Executive Director of Elemental, a “Do Tank” (as opposed to a “Think Tank”) working on projects for social housing, public spaces, infrastructure, and transportation. Elemental is supported by the UC and COPEC, the Chilean oil company. Elemental has contributed to changing the way of coping with the problem of housing, investment, and equality in Chile and it is spreading to other places in Latin America.
