IE School of Architecture presents the GO 00/09 lecture series on singular buildings execution.
The architect Carlos Ballesteros will open the series with the lecture titled “Singular projects, Plurar works”. This event will take place next Thursday 15th April at 1 p.m. at the Refectorio Lecture Hall, IE University, Segovia Campus.
Ballesteros will speak about his experience directing the construction of three singular buildings: the Merida’s Congress Hall, the Jellyfish house in Marbella and the Garrovilla’s youth hostel in Extremadura.
IE School of Architecture acoge el próximo jueves 15 de abril de 2010, a las 13:00 horas, en el Refectorio, la inauguración del “Ciclo de Conferencias sobre ejecución de obras GO 00/09” con una ponencia del arquitecto Carlos Ballesteros titulada “Proyectos singulares, obras plurales”. El ciclo está organizado por los profesores Julián García, José Antonio Meneses y Luis Álvarez.
Carlos Ballesteros fue uno de los arquitectos cuya obra se expuso en la muestra “Jóvenes Arquitectos de España”, que se celebró en las Arquerías de Nuevos Ministerios de Madrid hace unos meses. Su obra ha recibido diversos premios en concurso internacionales y ha sido publicada en revistas como Detail, Pasajes, 2G o Wallpaper.
En su conferencia en IE University, Ballesteros hará un repaso de su labor de dirección de obra en el Auditorio y Palacio de Congresos de Mérida de Nieto & Sobejano, en la espectacular Jellyfish house en Marbella de Wiel Arets, actualmente en construcción, y en una de sus propias obras, el Albergue de Garrovillas de Alconétar, que fue seleccionada para la exposición “Jóvenes Arquitectos de España” (Madrid, 2008).
Ballesteros es un enamorado de la arquitectura, la construcción y la cuidada ejecución de la obras. Recientemente resultó vencedor en un concurso internacional para 420 viviendas en Valdebebas, Madrid cuyo proyecto desarrolla en la actualidad.
Aparte de su obra propia, este arquitecto realiza importantes colaboraciones tanto en proyecto como en dirección de obra con grandes estudios de arquitectura como Nieto & Sobejano o Wiel Arets. Read more…

The best reward for students is no longer just a good grade. IE University is set to launch the first edition of ‘IE University Challenge’, a multimedia competition for Baccalaureate students aimed at promoting, recognizing, disseminating and rewarding creativity and talent among the younger generation, while encouraging the use of English. Winners will receive the new and much-awaited iPad.
In order to take part in this innovative project, students have to be studying the first or second year of the Baccalaureate in any college or place of study in Spain.
Candidates should register at www.retoieuniversity.com between April 12 and 25, 2010. Students will have to organize themselves in groups of 3 to 5 people, led by a tutor. Each group will choose a challenge related with the three UN themes for this year: the rapprochement of cultures: biodiversity; and youth. All projects have to be presented in English.
Projects must be uploaded onto the website between April 26 and May 9 in video format and in English. Only one project is permitted per group and total freedom of artistic expression will be permitted in all three categories. Votes and comments by internauts made between April 26 and may 16 will be taken into account for during the judging process.
The winning project will be announced on May 24, 2010, and members of the winning team will all receive an iPad, while the place of study they represent will receive a Smart Board and the professor who served as their tutor will receive a year’s free access to IE Lab.
The ‘IE University Challenge’ is run by IE University, a private international university based in Spain, and by the leading agencies of VOCENTO, a leading Spanish media group. Read more…

Del 24 al 31 de marzo, el profesor de IE School of Communication / IE University, Javier I. García González participó, invitado por el Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores de Francia, en la “7ème Session Internationale Euro-Méditerranée”, que organizó el Institut des Hautes Études de Défense National (IHEDN), en París.
La Session International Euro-Mediterranée se celebra cada dos años, con la intervención de unos 40 representantes de alto nivel de los países ribereños del mediterráneo entre los que figuraban políticos, diplomáticos, académicos y periodistas. La sesión de este año se dedicó al tema “Dynamiser la coopération de sécurité en Méditerrannée : dialogue et actions communes”. El profesor de IE University participó en el grupo de trabajo dedicado a la “Seguridad del espacio marítimo”.
El Dr. Javier Ignacio García González desarrolla su actividad docente e investigadora en el área de la Ciencia Política y las Relaciones Internacionales, centrando su atención especialmente en las cuestiones de seguridad y defensa y en opinión pública. Temas como la prevención de conflictos, la gestión de crisis, el mantenimiento y la consolidación de la paz, las políticas de seguridad y defensa en Organizaciones Internacionales, la política exterior o las cuestiones militares y sobre Fuerzas Armadas son algunos de los campos de investigación en los que está especialmente interesado en la actualidad. Por un trabajo en este campo fue galardonado con el prestigioso premio Defensa 2007, otorgado por el Ministerio de Defensa, en la modalidad de trabajos de investigación sobre la paz, la seguridad y la defensa. Actualmente, es profesor en la escuela de comunicación de IE University.
